As of May 1, 2025, the population of Zhambyl Region amounted to 1,223.1 thousand people, of which approximately 43.7% are urban residents and 56.3% are rural residents.
The average monthly nominal wage accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises) in the 1st quarter of 2025 amounted to ₸308,891, which is +9.5% higher than in the 1st quarter of 2024. The real wage index for this period was 101.6%. In the 3rd quarter of 2024, the average wage was approximately $548, showing an increase of +8.5% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2023.

In 2023, a branch of the D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia was opened at the M. H. Dulaty Taraz Regional University. This is the first project of its kind in the chemical technology sector within the CIS, implemented jointly with the major company Kazphosphate.
The program follows a “2+1+1” model: two years in Taraz, one year in Moscow, and a final year of industrial practice at a partner company. The program provides graduates with a dual diploma and prepares them for employment at strategically important enterprises.
