As part of a working visit to the city of St. Petersburg, the delegation of the Zhambyl region, headed by the regional akim Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, took part in the Baltic Regional Investment Forum BRIEF`22.

The forum is an effective platform for attracting investments, it makes it possible to identify promising areas of joint activity, to establish contacts with colleagues from a neighboring country.

Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, speaking at the plenary session of the forum, noted that participation in this event would give a new impetus to mutually beneficial cooperation between the two regions. He spoke about the Zhambyl region, emphasizing its attractiveness for potential investors.

- Our region has a unique experience of long-term partnership with large transnational companies from Germany, Turkey, Singapore, China, India, France, South Korea, and Japan. Three major projects have been launched with the participation of Russian business: Uralvtormet (heap leaching of copper ores), Eurochem (production of mineral fertilizers), AEK ASA LLP (solar power plant), Nurzhan Nurzhigitov said.

He stressed that the entrepreneurs of the Zhambyl region are ready to supply a certified and high-quality product. For example, in the region, on an area of about 120 thousand hectares, 1 million tons of vegetables are harvested annually. The region has the potential to export about 200 thousand tons of vegetables per year through the systemic formation of vegetable stores.

To date, meat exports have been established to the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, the Kingdom of Bahrain, Italy, Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Zhambyl meat processing plants have the opportunity to increase the volume of exports to 4 thousand tons of lamb and 10 thousand tons of beef.

There are apple orchards on the area of 2.6 thousand hectares in the region. Currently, these orchards harvest about 21 thousand tons of apples per year. Today, apple orchards are being planted at an accelerated pace. By 2024, it is planned to export up to 50 thousand tons of apples.

Potential investors are invited to implement 24 projects in the region for a total of 3.8 billion US dollars in the fields of agriculture, tourism, and renewable energy sources.

Agriculture is an industry that occupies a leading position in the economy of the region.

Also, the region has all the opportunities for the development of domestic and international tourism. The region is generously endowed with historical and archaeological monuments, unique natural and climatic zones. Five historical sites of the Zhambyl region are included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.

Zhambyl region is a leader in the field of renewable energy sources.

- Our region is one of the fastest growing regions of the country with rich natural and labor resources, developed social infrastructure. The region is rich in non-ferrous metals, barite, coal, facing, ornamental and technical stones, building materials. As you can see, the region has significant potential for the development of projects in various fields, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov concluded.
